Description

Tree with a longevity close to 250 years and a slow growth that can reach 35-40 m, with a straight and unbranched trunk, and an oval crown in its upper third. Its oval leaves are tender and bright green when young, becoming darker and somewhat leathery at maturity. It needs fresh and fertile soils, although the richest beech trees grow on calcareous rocks, and it needs abundant rain and atmospheric humidity. The most common styles are the broom (Hokidachi) and the informal vertical (Moyogi).
