Description

Climbing species belonging to the genus Trachelospermum, native to the countries of East and Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, South China and Vietnam. It is a woody plant with persistent foliage, which grows up to ten m tall if it is supported on a structure, pergola or any other vertical surface, since in its absence it forms a dense, almost globose bush. Its thin and strong stems can reach lengths of up to 7m. Tolerates somewhat saline environments. The leaves are simple, opposite, oval to lanceolate, 3-8 cm long and 1.5-2.5 cm wide. They have a shiny dark green color on the upper side and lighter on the underside. The flowers are white, 1-2 cm in diameter, with a tube-shaped corolla that opens into 5 petals. They are very scented. The fruit is a follicle 10 to 25 cm long and 3 to 10 mm wide that contains numerous seeds. The most common style is the informal upright (Moyogi) although it fits many others.
