Our nursery has a typical continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. In January, the average minimum temperature is 0,0° C; in July and August the average maximum temperatures of 32.2 ° C. The annual rainfall is 447.0 mm and is usually about five days of snow on average per year. This climate hardens our trees, since the vast majority of them are grown outside all year round since we only protect in winter those species that can not stand frost.
We believe that the good health of our bonsai, which is its best defense against pests and diseases, is the natural consequence of a balanced cultivation system that starts with the choice of the pot and the most suitable professional soil for each tree. We fertilize combining the best organic and inorganic fertilizers and we water manually, according to the needs of each tree, with the conviction that prevention is better than cure.
Living with bonsai gives us a daily contact with nature, a strong bond is formed with the tree, similar to the bond of an owner with his pet; additionally we get a powerful artistic way of expression that adds to the three dimensions of sculpture a fourth: time.
Creating a bonsai is often the work of several generations of caregivers, it never ends. We in Hatoen do not pretend to produce finished trees, an impossible goal, but to offer a good basic material with optionality, so that the amateur can easily exercise its creativity.
Many of us have in our collection bonsai that someone unknown started 20, 30, 50 years ago. We in Hatoen hope that our work will honour those who started the trees that today give us so many satisfactions and reciprocate by helping to make the art of bonsai popular among those who do not enjoy it yet.
