Description
Medium-sized tree, deciduous although if kept warm in winter it behaves as semiperenne. In its youth it has a grey trunk and thin bark, but when ripe scales of the bark break off. Its leaves are small, simple, alternate, oval, toothed and tip-finished; bright green that takes yellow and orange tones in autumn. The most common style is the curved informal upright (Moyogi), although it adapts to many others, such as clinging-to-rock (Ishizuke).
